Sophia's First Backcountry Skiing Experience
After two days of intense inbounds skiing in Whistler, Sophia and I set out for a short and easy tour in the area just outside of Whistler-Blackcomb resort boundaries, known as Musical Bumps. Since the Symphony Express chair was closed for the day, we had to start from the top of Harmony Express chair. We dropped a few dozen vertical meters, then skinned to the Piccolo Summit (the top of the Symphony Express chair), then dropped further into the Symphony Amphitheatre, then ascended Flute Summit, had lunch, skied a sweet line back into the Symphony Bowl, skinned up to the closest operating inbounds trail, and skied down to the Whistler Village. Distance-wise, it was a very short tour, but we were rewarded with plenty of incredible things we go to backcountry for: majestic views, great snow, surreal quietness and lack of crowds.
